Children with dyslexia and other language processing disorders benefit from learning spell using a structured language (O-G) approach that stresses understanding a word's structure as opposed to just memorizing it.
But since schools rarely use linguistically-based spelling programs the child's weekly spelling words often contain sound-letter associations and/or word structure elements that he/she has yet been been explicitly taught. The child's only option then is to memorize his/her weekly spelling words as a string of letters. This is difficult for children with working memory weaknesses and, of course, words memorized this way do not tend to be retained.
One alternative is to ask the child's teacher if the child's current Lexercise Word Bank words could be used in place of the weekly spelling words used by the rest of the class.
Below is one example of how a child's Lexercise Word Bank words (which are found on the Parent Portal) can be provided to the teacher for use as school spelling test words. The parent can write the words on a form like the one below and then send the form to school each Monday. Alternately, the parent can simply forward to the teacher by email the word cards from the current Lexercise Level (found on the Parent Portal.

A pdf of this spelling test format is attached below. You can print it and write the weekly spelling words on it and send it to school.
